We are lucky to have so many wonderful food and beverage options today, supporting our health and that of the planet. From local farmers wherever we live, to fresh options from the farm to our table, to the packaging our favorite foods come in, the choices we make are important. Here are some easy ways to make better choices that matter on Earth Day and every day!
- Seasonal Sensations. It’s fun to change up the menus with the change in seasons. Doing this can help keep meals interesting while keeping local foods on our radar, too. Find out what’s in season and visit our Better Choices page every month for fresh farmer stories, relevant recipes, and easy, impactful tips for wellbeing.
- Local farmers and grocery stores. Do you know what foods are local to your state/area? In addition to local fruits and vegetables, dairy is local, too. Look for these close-to-home favorites and more throughout the store in fresh departments and the aisles, too! We have so many things unique to the area our stores are in, including ready to eat, unique recipes made fresh right in the store. Find out what you can enjoy in your weekly menus. Don’t forget to plan for leftovers to help reduce wasted food, too.
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. From apple cores to zucchini ends, containers and food trimmings can be disposed of properly and/or perhaps reused. Learn more about composting in your area, and make sure to follow local rules and regulations. Be inspired to reuse containers like glass jars or cans with lid for storage. Find out what else you can do in regards to reducing, reusing, and recycling at home and at the office.
- Energy Efficiency. Did you know that doing simple things like switching light bulbs in your house, turning off lights when you leave the room, and shutting off the water while shaving or brushing your teeth can have a big impact? Caring for ourselves and the planet is a big job, but taking small steps each day can help each of us be a part of the bigger solution.
