Experience the Difference of Local.

The Independent Grocers Alliance (IGA) was founded in 1926 to bring family owned, local grocery stores together under the IGA brand. Nearly a century later, the support of a nationally known brand is still giving IGA grocers the ability to better compete, while at the same time, allowing them to stay true to who they are—hometown store owners in a position to meet the needs of their unique communities. Today, communities  across the U.S. are being served by second, third and even fourth generation local IGA grocers.

Why is Shopping Local Important?

A Stronger Local Economy

Each dollar you spend at independent businesses returns 3 times more money to your local economy than one spent at a chain (The American Independent Business Alliance says almost 50 times more than buying from an online mega-retailer).

A Healthier Environment

Independent, community-serving businesses typically consume less land, carry more locally made products, locate closer to residents and create less traffic and air pollution.

Giving Back to Your Community

Small businesses donate more than twice as much per sales dollar to local non-profits and community organizations compared to big businesses.

Largest Independent Grocery Chain in the World

At IGA, we know that shopping local is about all that and more. It’s about friendly service from people you know and trust. It’s about local products at the peak of freshness that you feel good about eating and feeding your family. And it’s about supporting the friends, neighbors and family farmers who work day in and day out to bring you the best your community has to offer.

Where is IGA?

With access to fresh, local food and supporting local businesses more important than ever before, IGA is growing throughout the US and around the world.
